Who we are
Via Vera ("we", "us") runs the Via Vera app at viavera.co.uk and is responsible for your personal data. Questions or requests about your data: hello@viavera.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, optional first name, timezone, and your password, which we only store in a securely hashed form.
- What you add: links you save with their titles, pictures, notes and ratings; your challenges, routines and completions; recipes; food entries; and the calorie and protein targets you set.
- Security records: the IP address and email used for login, sign-up and password-reset attempts, kept for up to a day to block abuse.
- Cookies: one essential cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.
How we use it
Only to run Via Vera for you: to show your own content, schedule your challenges and routines, total your food log, and send password-reset emails. Your content is private to your account. We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers or use it for marketing.
If you switch on the morning email, we email you each morning with your plan for the day (your routine, challenges and meals) and a suggestion from your own saved items. It's off unless you turn it on, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
When you save a link, our server visits that public page once to read its title and picture. The site you link to may see that visit, but not who you are.
To suggest a short name, a category and, for recipes, calorie and protein figures, we send the link's public title and caption to an AI service (Anthropic). We don't send your name, email or anything else from your account, and Anthropic may not use this data to train its models. Suggestions are always shown to you to accept or change, and nutrition estimates are clearly labelled.
We use your data because it's needed to provide the service you signed up for. Food entries, targets and wellbeing notes can say something about your health. You choose whether to add them, they are only used to show them back to you, and you can delete them at any time.
Who helps us run Via Vera
These providers process data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Vercel: hosts the app. It runs in London, though Vercel may handle limited technical data, such as IP addresses in logs, elsewhere.
- Neon: stores the database, in London.
- Resend: sends password-reset emails and, if you opt in, the morning email, from Ireland.
- Hostinger: manages our domain and our email inbox.
- Anthropic: the AI service that suggests names, categories and recipe nutrition from the public text of links you save.
Some of these companies are based in the USA. Where data leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. Things you delete are removed straight away. If you delete your account in Settings, everything linked to it is permanently erased. Short-term database backups are overwritten within a few days. Security records are deleted after about a day.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how it's used, and receive it in a portable format. You can edit or delete your content and your whole account yourself in the app. For anything else, email hello@viavera.co.uk and we'll reply within a month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Age
Via Vera is for people aged 16 and over.
Security
Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and each account can only access its own data. No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the ICO as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this notice we'll update the date above, and we'll tell you in the app if the change is significant.
Wellness disclaimer
Via Vera is a personal organiser for wellbeing content you choose to save. It is not a medical service and does not provide medical, nutritional or fitness advice. Calorie and protein targets are numbers you set yourself, and we don't present them as clinically appropriate. Content you save belongs to its original creators. Speak to a qualified professional before changing your diet or exercise, especially if you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are recovering from injury.
